Did you know that if you have glaucoma or cataracts there are 5 minute laser treatments that we are able to provide here at Insight Eyecare Jenks? These laser procedures are performed in the optometry office with no post op restrictions. There is very little risk involved with these laser procedures for the eye.
Laser treatment following cataract surgery in Jenks
Following cataract surgery around 50% of patients develop a cloudy layer of scar tissue on the back of their lens implant. This results in blurry vision and increased glare and halo at night. This scar tissue can easily be removed with a laser treatment called a yag capsulotomy. The laser treatment is done in the office in less than 5 minutes. There are are no
restrictions following the laser, however, you will use a steroid eye drop for one week for any inflammation that becomes present. Once the scar tissue is removed, it will not come back and vision will be clear again.
Laser treatment for glaucoma patients in Jenks
Some glaucoma patients may be a candidate for a laser treatment called an SLT. An SLT laser cleans out the drain inside the eye and lowers eye pressure. This may allow the patient to discontinue eye drops for the treatment of glaucoma. An SLT laser is performed in the office in less than 5 minutes. You will be sent home with an NSAID eye drop to use for any irritation you experience following the laser treatment.
Laser treatment for angle closure in Jenks
There are some patients who have very little space inside of their eyes and are at risk for closing off their drain. These patients can benefit from a laser procedure called a peripheral iridotomy. During this laser procedure, a small hole is placed in the iris (the colored part of the eye) to allow fluid an additional way to reach the drain. This is the one laser procedure performed that can be mildly uncomfortable for patients. After the procedure is over, you will use a steroid eye drop for a week to reduce any inflammation created.
