Annual “Giving Sight Day” – Providing Free Vision Care Since 2017

Annual Giving Sight day

Since 2017, the entire team at Insight Eyecare has dedicated the first weekend of October to its annual “Giving Sight Day,” providing free eye exams and free eyeglasses to the community.

The event has grown from a local initiative to a model for a statewide effort adopted by the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians.

Impact and Dedication in 2025

In 2025 we succeded in:

  • Services Rendered: Insight Eyecare performed over 55 eye exams and provided over 70 pairs of glasses to those in need.
  • Team Commitment: The event is celebrated among the Insight Eyecare team, who volunteer their time without pay to serve the community. The whole team, along with a few previous team members who went on to start their own businesses, participate each year in this truly “all hands on deck” effort.
  • Age Range: Patients’ ages this year ranged widely, from 2 years old to 87.

Beyond Vision: Diagnosis and Care

“Giving Sight Day” consistently highlights the profound impact of vision care on our community. We hear numerous stories from patients who couldn’t function or drive legally without glasses but couldn’t afford them.

Furthermore, the comprehensive eye exams allow our doctors to make critical health diagnoses:

  • Systemic Diseases: We routinely diagnose patients with systemic diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure based on findings during their eye exam.
  • Eye Diseases: Doctors at both the Jenks and Glenpool locations diagnose and treat eye diseases such as glaucoma, myopia, astigmatism, cataracts, and macular degeneration. Patients who required surgery or follow-up testing were scheduled at no cost.

Collaborations and Sponsorship

This year, the teams at Insight Eyecare Glenpool and Insight Eyecare Jenks partnered with the doctors at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group (OMEG).

Insight Eyecare expertly filled the glasses prescriptions for all the sight exams OMEG provided that day.

Additionally, the Insight Eyecare Jenks location was fortunate to have long-time industry friends join to help see more patients.

We extend a special thanks to our generous sponsors, 141 Eyewear and Hoya Ophthalmic Lenses, whose support is essential in allowing Insight Eyecare to benefit these patients.

Event Logistics and Future Date

The event on Giving Sight Day operates on a first-come, first-served basis. When the doors open at 8:30 AM, there is usually a line of those in need at both the Jenks and Glenpool locations.

Vouchers are given out with specific time slots, though the overarching goal is always to help as many patients as possible—we usually work in 5–10 extra exams to ensure no one is turned away.

The participating doctors this year included Dr. Jake Allread (Insight Eyecare Glenpool), Dr. Peyton Porter (Insight Eyecare Jenks), and Dr. Kyle Tate (Insight Eyecare Glenpool).

Next Year’s Event: Giving Sight Day 2026 is scheduled for October 3rd at 8:30 AM at both locations. If you know of someone in need of eye care, please direct them to this webpage for more information.
