There are clouding the lens inside the eye cataracts caused by blurry vision.
So come see as if you need a blurry vision eye exam , you need to see our Jenks eye doctor staff.
Inside I care cataracts are natural clouding the lens in the eye usually happens in patients over age 50. The average age is about 65. It can cause just general hazy vision it can cause glare. This can be slow or even happens just over a few months and the best way to fix a cataract is cataract surgery. We know now that’s outpatient surgery. Is No shots no stitches no bleeding involved to the eyes. There’s many different types of cataracts. The three most common types that we see that happen in about 95 percent of cases is just a general clouting or yelling of the center of the lens or it can get some white spokes coming in from the outside and that causes glare really bad or a little white dot in the back called MPAC. The two other most common types which are not seen as much as cataracts from trauma or from disease and medications. Cataract surgery the surgeon goes in and takes that cloudy LINZESS not letting a good image through and takes it out of the eye wall that lens has to be replaced to keep us from having very thick coke bottle glasses. Last time we talked about the state are twins first some of the options that we have now to be able to give good distance and reading vision with and without astigmatism in the lens of the eye and those are lens technologies that we highly recommend because they save you money in the long run. So the first thing we’re in talk about today is laser cataract surgery for standard cataract surgery.
Now it’s important to know that the surgeon is still doing work in the eye. Eye Cataracts. A lot of patients come to us they’ve heard of laser cataract surgery or they’re confused with lasik and they think that doctors doctor just pushing buttons the whole time. Will that make some of the steps a little quicker and maybe easier and safer. But let’s talk about what’s actually happening there. There’s two main parts. Kind of three steps to laser cataract surgery. The first thing is the incision in the clear from the called the cornea instead of being done by hand. That can be done with the laser which could be more precise and it can also help with astigmatism reduction a little bit by where that this surgeon’s incision is placed with the laser and then some other places the laser can make some incisions to help with that as well. Eye Cataracts
Then the surgeon uses the laser to make it clear circle opening on the front of the capsule or a bag that holds the lens and then the third part is the lasers used to break up that cloudy linens into fragments. Then the surgeon goes in and actually touches the eye because at this point with the laser doing all the work they haven’t done anything the surgeon goes in and takes all those fragments out of the eye and then inserts the new lens in reverse the standard way where they make an incision with a blade. They make the opening as round as they possibly can and they break the lens up usually into four parts and then take the four parts out. Let’s talk about though why you would want laser cataract surgery when we do those premium lenses that we talked about in the third podcast. We need those lenses to be put in a very center of the eye to get the best vision possible. You know if you take your glasses and you move them up or down a few centimeters you don’t see as well. Well that’s the same thing but even a millimeter inside the eye. We need those premium lenses to be perfectly centered and that circular opening in a capsule called a capsule or Rexus can do that to these types of things we’re going through right now is your Jenks eye doctor remember we’re here to help talk about what’s best for you. Make sure you’re either with a surgeon that’s very talented to do it by hand or somebody that is more comfortable and feels the laser gives a better outcome.
The other thing that the laser assisted cataract surgery does a little better with is on a really really hard lens done by hand that can take a lot of ultrasound energy which causes trauma to the eye which can cause problems down the road. They feel that current research has shown that the laser can break that winds apart with less trauma to the eye involved so it can be a less traumatic surgery which means less swelling quicker healing less risk of problems down the road. So all things equal laser cataract surgery is something that your Jenks eye doctor we can help out with that has some surgeons that do really great job by hand and really great job by Elisir. So that’s one of the things is your Jenks eye doctor that we’ll talk with you about next. I wanted to talk about some of the future technologies and the premium lenses stuff that’s being researched. That’s not out yet that’s awful exciting.
We talked last time about the crystal lens the premium lives that can focus Well there’s a company that has try to fix the limitation of the crystal lens which is the crystalizes not do good reading very close to someone who wants to sit and read books for hours it’s not the best option for because of how much it can focus Well there there’s a company that has got Olin’s under-study that can double the amount of reading focus the crystal and so this lens would give the most natural vision about life when we were all in our 30s that amount of reading focus where you can read up close for hours and not really have any eye fatigue. That’s the lens I’m very excited about. There’s another one that’s coming out that can receive a signal and basically be adjusted. So right now the issue of the problem this fixes it is when you go for your valuation. There’s all these measurements have to be taken and those measurements are used to calculate what lens is put in. But then they’re also having to predict what direction and how much your eye will heal. And some people don’t heal as predicted just like some people bruise more or less than others. So this lens can just be put in within a range of almost close.
And then at the follow up visit once the eyes come down we can take a measurement to the prescription and then send a signal in to have that lives change and adjust the prescription and so if your vision got worse you would just go to the surgeon’s office and they would do a little adjustment without ever having to actually touch the eye which is a really neat and amazing thing. Eye Cataracts
The last little bit of technology came out in a news about a year ago so it’s actually available but it was a little misunderstood what it actually is. It’s a lens implant option for people who don’t see well. So they call it a telescope. Well and it’s a lens that basically helps magnify for patients and it really really unhealthy eyes that have bad vision. It gives them a bigger image to look through. They can’t see as much. So think of looking through binoculars you don’t see a whole lot of picture you just see a really small area magnified. That’s what it is and it will help some people by far but most people saw that and thought it was for the average Joe just to see better and that’s not really the truth but we will tell you as your Jenks eye doctor
